TUMPEK UDUH / PENGATAK

HARI RAYA TUMPEK UDUH ( PENGATAK)

This Tumpek day is generally considered to be the onofficial start of the Galungan ceremony period. At this particular day one starts with the preparations for the Galungan festival.

At Tumpek Uduh (or Tumpek Pengatak) Dewa Sangkara, the Hindu god of the plants, is worshipped.

Ethymology

The word tumpek is high Balinese and means, 'close, near'; the word uduh means 'spell' (to protect the crops), while pengatak is derived from atak, which means 'to arrange in an orderly fashion'.

Ceremonies of Tumpek Uduh

During this day special offerings are made and one prays for God's blessings and protection of the crops so that the plants will grow well and will produce good fruits that can be used for the many offerings during the coming Galungan ceremonies.

Celebration date of Tumpek Uduh

Tumpek Uduh is always celebrated at the Saturday of the 7th week of the Balinese Pawukon calendar, Wariga.

You may consult the ceremony calendar for this year's specific Tumpek Uduh date.
